Economic growth slows down, military spending increases and food supplies stagnate. But the Party elites aren't in good shape either. Within only five years three party leaders, Brehznev, Andropov and Chernenko, die. Also the satellites are ruled by old men willing to defend their power with violence - as in the case of General Jaruzelski.
